New Years Day Key West Sailfish
The holidays in Key West, Florida are always something to experience. And fishing on New Years Day can be the best way to end the holidays. Key West sailfish is always a good start to the new year.
We certainly started 2025 off with a bang!
The Holidays in Key West
I love the holiday season in Key West. The lights, the festivals and the Christmas Light Parade train rides! There’s nothing like it. The very best part, however, is the fishing. It’s the time of year where you never know what to expect. From fired up reef fishing to pelagic fishing. We have it all.

Mahi and Sailfish
This year we had a late New Years Day charter. The weather was beautiful, and the winds were down. Rumor had it that there were some mahi offshore, which is fairly rare for this time of year. After plenty of offseason mahi action, we were getting close to sunset.
Key West Sailfish at sunset
As we were about to start to head in, a sailfish came up on one of our baits, and we were able to hook him after several drop backs. He put on a beautiful show with the perfect sunset background.

The unexpected
New Years Day fishing in Key West, I’ve learned to always expect the unexpected. However, this is the 4th year straight, I’ve started the year off with a sailfish.
